Jonathan Elmer is Professor English and Director of the College Arts and Humanities Institute, which works to advance the research of scholars in arts and humanities at IUB. He has published on Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Thomas Jefferson, Richard Wright, Herman Melville, and Jeffrey "the Dude” Lebowski, as well as other fun topics, like cocktails. From 2015-2017, he was the Artistic Director of the Chicago Humanities Festival, the largest and longest-running festival of arts and ideas in America. He currently serves as one of the Principal Investigators of a four-year research laboratory focused on Indiana Studies and Global Popular Music. He has played trombone for a LONG time, and performs in Bloomington with the Postmodern Jazz Quartet.
