eMajor Requirements

The major in Management + Human Organization combines courses in the Liberal Arts with training in key business skills. Students select courses from the IU College of Arts and Sciences and the IU Kelley School of Business, in addition to four designated, interdisciplinary "core" courses.

  • 4 interdisciplinary "core" courses

    LAMP-M courses
    • LAMP-M 201 “Arts of Communication” (usually offered both Fall and Spring semesters)

    • LAMP-M 301 “Evidence, Analysis, and Ways of Knowing” (offered at least once/ academic year)

    • LAMP-M 302 “Ethics & Responsible Management” (offered at least once/ academic year)

    • LAMP-M 401  “Management + Human Organization Capstone Seminar” (usually offered Spring semesters)

    • LAMP-M 303 "Business and Inequality" (usually offered Fall semster) is not required but strongly recommended and fulfills the M+HO "Difference, Conflict, Diversity" requirement.
  • 3 courses fundamental for management

    • BUS-A 200  “Foundations of Accounting” 
    • ECON-B 251 “Fundamentals of Economics For Business I" or ECON-S 201 (“Intro to Microeconomics, Honors")
    • BUS F-300 “Intro to Financial Management” or BUS J-306 “Strategic Management”
  • 4 courses in key skills and competencies

    Successful completion of the major requires one course in each of the following areas: Professional Writing, Statistics, Understanding Diversity and Difference, and Career Competency. 

    • ENG-W 231 “Professional Writing” or ENG-W 321 “Advanced Technical Writing” or ENG-W 240 “Community Service Writing” or ENG-W 350 ("Advanced Expository Writing" only when it includes a "Service Learning" component)

    • The following all fulfill the Statistics requirement. Take one (1): ANTH-A 306, CJUS-K 300, ECON-E 370, ECON-S 370, POLS-Y 395, PSY-K 300, PSY-K 310, SOC-S 371, STATS-K 310, STATS-S 300, STATS-S 301. 

    • The following courses meet the Difference-Conflict-Diversity requirement (this is distinct from the College's DUS requirement). Take one: AAADS-A 355 “African-American History, I”; AADS-A 356 “African-American History, II”; ANTH-E 300 (only when the topic is "On the Move Across Asia"); HIST-A 355 “African-American History, I”; HIST-A 356 “African-American History, II”; POLS-Y301 “Political Parties and Interest Groups”; POLS-Y 353 “Politics, Gender, and Sexuality”; PSY-P 304 “Social Psychology and Individual Difference”; SOC-S 217 “Social Inequality”; SOC-S 335 “Race and Ethnic Relations”; SOC-S 338 “Gender Roles.” 

    • ASCS-Q 296 College to Careers for Management + Human Organization students. This course is required for MHO students matriculating fall 2021 and onward. Students who matriculted before fall 2021 are encouraged to take the course but are not required to.
  • 4 approved Liberal Arts courses

  • Minor in Business, the O'Neill School, or the College

    All students in the Management + Human Organization major must complete a minor in the Kelley School of Business or in the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. With permission of the LAMP Director, a College minor, major, or certificate may also be used to fulfill this requirement (the certificates in "Psychology of Business" and in "Business German" have been approved).
