John Robison is a Lecturer in the Philosophy Department. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from University of Massachusetts Amherst and a BA in Philosophy and in Music from University of Rochester. While living in Western Massachusetts, he taught courses in medical ethics, social and political philosophy, ethics, and introductory philosophy at UMass and Smith College. Before that, he taught a wide range of courses in philosophy and music at Loomis Chaffee School, a college preparatory school in Windsor, CT. Much of his primary research focuses on questions about when ignorance does and doesn’t excuse from responsibility, the nature of respect, and the ethics and epistemology of informational exchange. His research has appeared in Pacific Philosophical Quarterly and Philosophical Studies. Teaching in LAMP, he works with students to help them spot ethical issues hidden in business and grapple with conflicts of values as they arise in management contexts. An avid music fan, he both celebrates and laments that there is more music going on in Bloomington than one can keep up with. Professor Robison teaches LAMP-M 302 "Ethics and Responsible Management" for the Management + Human Organization major.
