Professor Halloran holds appointments in the Departments of English and American Studies and is Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion in the College. She is also affiliated with the Departments of African American and African Diaspora Studies, and Spanish and Portuguese; the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies; the Food Institute; and the Programs in Asian American Studies, Human Biology, and Latino Studies. Professor Halloran holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from UCLA and a BA in English and Spanish from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Her current research focuses on how prominent Americans of Caribbean descent (think Lin Manuel Miranda, AOC, and Kamala Harris) are making the case for including their voices in shaping the future of American culture and politics. Professor Halloran is the author of The Immigrant Kitchen: Food, Identity, and Diaspora (2016) and Exhibiting Slavery: The Caribbean Postmodern Novel as Museum. Dr. Halloran strongly believes in sharing what she’s reading through GoodReads.com. She also enjoys cooking, gardening, and encouraging all students to pursue paid internships to try out different career opportunities before committing to one. Dr. Halloran has taught a number of classes for LAMP's Management + Human Organization major, including LAMP-M 201 "“Arts of Communication”, LAMP-M 301 “Evidence, Analysis, and Ways of Knowing,” and the capstone course (LAMP-M 401) for seniors in the major.
