LAMP Alum Caitlin Bitzegaio - TV Writer and Comedian
Thursday, December 10, 2020
Meet Caitlin (2005 English BA, LAMP honors), a comedian and TV writer who has written for shows like Project Runway and Impractical Jokers, among others.
She came to IU from New Albany, Indiana and knew that she was on “a College of Arts and Sciences track, with some wiggle room as to exact focus.” She learned about LAMP through a pamphlet at a freshman orientation event, and thought it would be a good way to explore other opportunities that were available at IU.
After graduation, Caitlin got a gradaute degree in English at Rutgers University and started taking improv and sketch comedy classes, an interest she stuck with. She now writes for TV shows including Magic For Humans, The Rundown with Robin Thede, Impractical Jokers, and Project Runway.
Caitlin thinks that her LAMP classes served as good precursors to writing rooms: “I think my favorite thing about LAMP was the people: faculty, staff and students. It felt collaborative and like we were all excited about our projects, discussions and debates. I think it gave me a lot of confidence to work with students and professors across disciplines, who were all focused and ambitious, in 1000 different ways. Actually the LAMP classes remind me a lot of (the best) professional writers rooms where everyone is contributing, trying to solve problems and being really funny!”
